UCW Quilt Fair

We hope you enjoy the sample of pictures shown here that were taken May 6, 2006 at our first Quilt Show and Luncheon. Some 65 quilts, as well as16 wall-hangings or small items, were displayed. What a magnificent collection it was! The show was a mix of old and new, with quilts from the 1930's right up to the present day. Quilters ranged in age from a 7-year old boy to life-long quilters in their 90's.

The quilt chosen as "People's Choice" was one owned by Sheri Archibald entitled "Handkerchief Quilt". Another quilt that received a lot of attention was a dazzling one created by Diana Reid. You can see it here. It was made from 199 neckties, 117 of which were sent to Diana by CBC News Anchor, Peter Mansbridge, after receiving her request for a "few" he might spare.

Our Door Prize was won by long-time church member Ethel Alexander.

We were happy to see that our guest book was filled with glowing comments including one which declared the show to be "the best display I've ever seen". In addition to the quilts, we served a cold salad plate and an assortment of home-made cakes that received high praise as well. How gratifying, after all our efforts, to hear everyone's positive comments and have everything go so well. Thanks to all who attended and, of course, special thanks to all who allowed us the privilege of showing their quilts.
